India hit back:Using the sun

As we all know Sun is the ultimate source of energy. In recent years solar energy is also becoming the alternative of other fossil fuels. With low pollution extent , high energy gain effeciency it can be a major source of electricity, and other energies. Though it has many uses ,due to high cost of solar cells, photovoltaic cells it is less popular among the mass. In india  also it is less used in comparision to other energy sources. But globally india is the 3rd largest country in the field of utilising solar energy. So now during the period of honorable prime minister Shri Narendra Modi India is emerging as a global leader in the field of utilising solar energy.

As an example International Solar Alliance (ISA) founded by India and France shows how India is contributing to solve the global problems. India not only setting a goal to boost solar energy for itself but it also giving a helping hand towards the developing countries like Mozambique,Kenya,Somalia and many other African nations. Let us see some important key roles of India in ISA.

About ISA:

The international solar alliance (ISA) was  unveiled by Prime minister Narendra Modi and French Prez Framcois Hollande at the U.N Climate Change Conference in Paris on November 30 2015. The idea was to form a coalition between the solar rich countries to collaborate  on addressing the identified gaps  in their energy requirement through a common approach. Towards this the ISA has set a target of  1 TW of solar energy by 2030. Which current french prez  Emmanuel Marcon said would require $1 trillion.

Members Countries:

The ISA is open to 121 prospective countries, most of them located in between  Tropics of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorm as this is the region with asurplus bright sunlight for most of the year.

so far however only 56 countries have signed the ISA Framework Agreement. These include Australia,Bangladesh,Benin,Brazil,Burkina,Faso,Cabo,Verde,Cambodia,Chad,Chile,Comros,Costarica,Cote d'ivoire, Cuba,Djibouti,Dominican,DR congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Fiji, France, Gambia, Gabon, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Guyana, Ghana, Guinea, Kiribati, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nauru, Niger, Nigeria, Peru, Rwanda, Sao, Tome, senegal, Seychelles, Somalia, South Sudan, Sri lanka , Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Tonga, Tuvalu, UAE, Uganda, Vanuatu, Venezuela and Yemen.

India's Role:

Apart from being a founding member India plays a significant role in the alliance in terms of being host as well as a major contributor to achieve the target. The ISA is the first international body that have a secretariat in India in Gurugram. India with a target to produce 100 GW of solar energy by 2022, would account for tenth of ISA goals.India will produce 175 GW of    electricity from renewable sources by 2022 and 100 GW will be from solar energy said by Mr. Modi.

Partnerships:

France invested approximate 1.3 bn US dollar where India contributing 1.4 bn in the ISA. India playing such a major role in solving global issues is seen after many ages. In association with World Bank ISA planned to launch Global Solar Atlas at an ISA event at the World Future Energy Summit inn Abu Dhabi. Global Solar Atlas is  a, free online tool that displays annual solar power potential at any location in the world and thus identify potential sites for solar power generation.

At World Future Energy summit in January 2018 in Abu Dhabi, the government of India announced an establishment of $350 million solar development fund to enable financing of solar projects.

It is said that India is emerging as a global leader in renewable energy sources, and that is proved by the ISA foundation and establishment made by Indian government.

we can see this alliance as a major successe in Modi Government and a step towards the global leadership.
